Everyone has an image of themselves. Whether that image is positive or negative it’s there, in the way you speak, perceive and judge the world around you, and in how you create. The human concept and ability to create is astounding. Humans have an incredible drive to create, and we use this creativity to change the physical world and to express our ideas in a way that can be known to others. Creativity described in many ways; such is the power of inspiration. It is described as the ability to look at one thing though the view of another different thing, the ability to collaborate. It gives you the ability to develop ideas and express thoughts differently and uniquely. Art and human creativity are intrinsically intertwined; art is defined by the Oxford dictionary as “The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” There is an interesting LIST of definitions from Psychology students from the University of California that shows just how creative humans are even just defining creativity. Now this brings me back to the idea that we all have an image of self. It’s in everything we do. Every conversation you have, every post you make to a social site, the styles you wear and what you like are, to some extent, reflections of your self-image. By now you’re asking me what this has to do with creativity. It’s my strong belief that every person has a deep-seated need and desire to create, to leave a mark. Humans create art, we tap into this ability to create and be creative to make ourselves known. In every piece of art, whether its song, dance, painting, writing, sculpture, photography, or the hundreds of different types of mediums used by people there is a reflection there. A reproduction of self, or of something you see in the world from your angle. What do you think? How have you created lately? Remember, the more creative the better.
